• Námestie Majstra Pavla 1/1, Levoča

Church of St. Jacob in Levoča is one of the largest Gothic temples in Slovakia. The temple has a rich history, which dates back to 1263. In 2015, it was declared a Basilica minor.

The basilica and its interior furnishings have been a national cultural monument since 1965. The main altar, which is at the same time the highest Gothic altar in the world, is more admired by visitors. Its author is famous late Gothic woodcarver Master Paul of Levoča. The altar measures 18 meters and 62 centimeters.

The oldest and rarest church decoration from the 14th and 15th centuries includes breathtaking murals on the northern nave wall and in the church sanctuary. Equally rare are the works of Baroque goldsmith Ján Szilassy - monstrances, chalices and other religious objects, which are a national monument.

The monumental Parish Church of St. Jacob is a living temple and masses are held here on daily basis. During the liturgical celebrations in the temple, it is not possible to visit the church for tourist purposes. The current opening hours as well as entrance fees can be checked on the website.
