The Plavecký Castle ruin is situated above the village of Plavecké Podhradie on the Pohanská Hill in the western foothills of the Little Carpathians. The castle was built primarily as a royal border fortress. The castle gradually passed through the hands of various owners. One of the most famous ones were Ctibor of Ctiborice, later counts of Sv. Jur and Pezinok, noble families of Szerédy, Salma, Fugger and Balassa. From 1641 until the 20th century, the members of Pálffy family were masters of the castle.

In the second half of the 16th century, the castle was rebuilt into a Renaissance fortress with lower courtyards. Gradually, it was again fortified and maintained during the 17th century, when it was supplemented by new cannon bastions.

In 1707, the castle was fired for three days by the imperial army in the fight against the Kurucz rebels and as a result, it was destroyed. Since then, the castle has not been restored and merely decayed.

It is possible to get to the castle from Plavecké Podhradie and you can park in the meadow below the castle. The ascent takes about 30 minutes. On the way, you can see focal points where you can sit and roast. From the castle, there is also a wonderful unrepeatable view, which is quite impressive even in bad weather.
