• Jahodnícke háje, Martin

The Museum of the Slovak Village is a unique open-air museum presenting folk architecture, housing and the life of traditional village communities in Slovakia in the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. The museum is located in Martin, in the town part of Jahodnícke Háje.

The foundation stone of the exposition was laid in 1967 and the exposition was opened to the public in 1972. The Slovak Village Museum presents the Slovak regions of Orava, Kysuce - Javorníky, Liptov and last but not least the Turiec region.

In each part, which presents a specific region, it is possible to admire historically valuable building objects set in a beautiful natural environment. In the accessible part of the exposition of the Orava region, one of the most precious buildings is the land estate of Vyšný Kubín. Expositions of housing or canvas processing are also available in individual buildings.

Agricultural expositions document the cultivation of traditional crops, trees, spices, medicinal and magical plants. In the region of Turiec, there is also a Roman Catholic wooden church from Rudno with an illusive interior painting. Also interesting is the reconstructed street build-up area with two homesteads with gable orientation from Hruštín.

In addition to the exhibition of folk architecture exhibitions accompanied by a lecturer, you can also enjoy refreshments in a typical tavern from Oravská Polhora, purchase postcards, publications or small souvenirs and folk art products. The museum is part of the Slovak National Museum in Martin.
