• časť Červeňany, Sirk

The village of Sirk was in the past an important locality of iron ore mining. That's why a blast furnace and a hammer were built here. The iron furnace was in operation from 1871 to 1903. Today it is an important technical monument, during which tourists will be happy to stop during their wandering Gemer.

The furnace is built of quarry stone on four massive pillars with a floor plan of approximately 4 x 4 meters. The blast furnace from the period of Hungarian Kingdom in Sirka, which was supplied by iron ore near the iron ore mines in Železník and Rákoš, is quite well preserved for the current conditions. It was restored as a cultural monument in 1970 by the Slovak Technical Museum.

The Sirka blast furnace is part of the European Iron Road. You can reach it directly from the village, unpretentious and comfortable walking. For perfect relaxation and meditation are also used benches. It is also possible to continue hiking in the surrounding forests.
